October 24 — Pet Illness Symptoms

Maggie and Tara slept with me last night. Gave Maggie a Tremedal at 11:45 p.m. to help her get through the night. She wanted out at 1:30 a.m. — not sure why…whether to chase something or because she still had some diarhrea. Of course she went right back to sleep! I on the other hand watched two episodes of Will & Grace I’d recorded — find sometimes something humorous and mindless helps me to get back to sleep.

Was restless again around 6:00 a.m. but settled down and went back to sleep. Barked around 8:00 a.m. at something outside and then wanted out around 8:45 a.m.

She is much more lame this morning. Only puts weight on her leg when walking at a very slow pace. Anything faster and she is either on her toe or on three legs. The lameness didn’t subside during the walk this morning.

Cooked Maggie and Tara (and me) an omelet this a.m. — free range eggs and three-year old cheese. Thank God they both ate it!!! Took some convincing with Maggie but not a lot. They ate a couple of mouthfuls of their left over dinner stew. Tara was still hungry so gave her some yogurt and boiled chicken (her evening treat) and she ate it all up. Maggie had a dried chicken strip since she wouldn’t eat the boiled chicken.

Gave Maggie Tremedal at 10:15 a.m. when we got back from our walk as she appeared to be really uncomfortable. Couldn’t lie still or in one place. She settled after that. Ate her breakfast about 20 minutes later. Gave her Metacam at 11:00 a.m.

Both she and Tara are asleep in the living room now.

Two friends came to visit this afternoon so Maggie and Tara had some mental stimulation. Maggie slept most of the afternoon and seems a little more alert now. This is the first time she’s had three doses of Tremedal within a 24-hour period (last night 6:20 p.m., 11:45 p.m. and this morning at 11:45 a.m.

She’s still not putting any weight on her leg — only a little when walking slowly.

Maggie wouldn’t eat any dinner. Dose of Arsenicum Album 200 ch at 6:40 p.m.

Tara ate little of her dinner. Ate a lot a couple of hours later when I let her clean up the casserol dish that I cooked their stew in. Added a few spoonfuls of stew to the dish.

Maggie ate some then too — around 1 1/2 cups of stew. Then went outside and sat on the deck for awhile.

Gave Maggie some Tremedal, around 10 p.m., before we went to bed, hoping that we would make it through the night.
